Program Overview

The MEng in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sheffield is a comprehensive four-year master’s program tailored for those passionate about the blend of engineering and healthcare. This course merges essential engineering concepts with biological and medical sciences, emphasizing technologies that enhance human health and wellbeing. If you're looking for a bit more experience, there's an optional placement year and a chance to study abroad, which can extend your studies to five years.

Starting in the second year, students can dive deeper into one of four specializations:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Medical Devices and Systems
  • Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering
  • Biomanufacturing

The learning approach is hands-on and project-based, featuring both team collaborations and individual assignments. Students benefit from access to specialized labs and facilities, including the cutting-edge biomedical spaces in the Diamond building.

Teaching is conducted by a diverse team of staff from engineering and medical fields, emphasizing practical applications. The curriculum is rich with lectures, tutorials, lab work, design projects, and coursework assessments. Plus, there are chances to engage with global engineering challenges that tackle health issues in developing regions.

Sheffield boasts a strong reputation in national rankings for biomedical engineering and is a proud member of the Russell Group. The program is distinguished by its excellent facilities, supportive research environment, and strong ties with healthcare and industry partners.
