Program Overview

The MEng Biomedical Engineering at UCL is a prestigious four-year integrated master's program situated at the heart of London’s medical and innovation hub. UCL’s Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is internationally renowned, combining rigorous academic learning with applied, research-driven project work. The course is fully accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), satisfying the academic criteria for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Students benefit from the Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP), which allows them to pursue thematic minors in areas such as entrepreneurship, programming, or languages, supporting interdisciplinary development. Major projects in Years 3 and 4 are often conducted in partnership with London hospitals and cutting-edge research centres, offering unique clinical and industry exposure.

  • Year 1: Engineering Design Project, Applied Science and Experimentation, Introduction to Engineering Mathematics and Science

  • Year 2: Programming for Biomedical Engineering, Mathematical Modelling and Analysis II, Applied Tissue Engineering 

  • Year 3: Medical Electronics and Neural Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Research Project in Biomedical Engineering, along with optional modules

  • Year 4: Materials for Orthopaedic Medical Devices, Frontiers of Bio-Medical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Group Research Project

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Individual Research Project: Year 3 project often in collaboration with hospital or UCL research group.

  • Group Design Project: Year 4 team-based real-world design challenge.

  • IEP Minors: Tailored skills development in computing, languages, enterprise, or sustainability.
