Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business (Economics) at the University of Wollongong gives you a strong grounding in essential business disciplines while allowing you to specialise in understanding how economies function. It’s perfect for students who are curious about why people, companies and governments make the choices they do — and who want to build solid analytical, quantitative and strategic skills that apply across business and society.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year introduces you to the core elements of business so you can build a broad, confident foundation. You’ll explore accounting fundamentals, responsible business principles, marketing basics and the key economic ideas that drive business decisions. Subjects include ACCY111 Accounting Fundamentals in Society, COMM101 Principles of Responsible Business, and ECON100 Economic Essentials for Business.

Year 2

In your second year, you start shaping your study path around your Economics major. This is where theory meets application. You might study subjects like ECON215 Microeconomic Theory and Policy or ECON205 Macroeconomic Theory and Policy, while exploring business electives that deepen your practical skills. By this stage, you’re connecting economic concepts to real business situations and decision-making frameworks.

Year 3

Your final year brings everything together. You’ll complete a capstone subject that synthesises your knowledge across the degree, and you may have the chance to undertake an internship for hands-on industry experience. You’ll also explore advanced economics topics — for example ECON305 Economic Policy or ECON339 Applied Financial Modelling — sharpening your ability to analyse data, assess policy and understand market behaviour at a deeper level.
