University of New England Armidale

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Laws at the University of New England (UNE) gives you a powerful blend of commercial and legal knowledge — perfect if you’re keen to build a career at the crossroads of business, law and policy. You’ll graduate equipped with both business acumen and legal reasoning skills, ready to step into roles that demand strategic thinking, ethical decision-making and a deep understanding of how law and commerce intersect.

This program is delivered Armidale giving students flexibility while experiencing both a regional academic environment and a city-based learning setting.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year you’ll dive into foundational business principles alongside introductory legal concepts. Early business units like Accounting Information for Business Decision-making, Economics for Management and Fundamentals of Management help you understand how businesses operate, while introductory law courses begin building your awareness of legal frameworks. This year gets you comfortable with core ideas like finance, economics, organisational behavior — and starts you on the path to legal literacy.

Year 2
As you move into your second year, you explore specific business functions — perhaps in marketing, management or finance — while simultaneously advancing in law. You might take units such as Fundamentals of Marketing, Business Ethics or Strategic Planning and Sustainability to understand how businesses are shaped by internal decisions and external pressures. On the law side, you’ll begin more rigorous legal training — building the analytical and reading skills essential for interpreting legislation, contracts or policy.

Year 3
By the third year, you’re synthesizing legal and business thinking. Business units could include more advanced or specialised material (depending on your chosen major or interest), while law studies deepen your legal reasoning and understanding of how laws apply in commercial and societal contexts. This phase helps you start seeing where business strategy and legal compliance meet — a foundation for sophisticated, real-world decision-making.

Year 4
In the fourth year you continue to refine both business expertise and legal competence. You’ll likely engage with higher-level units in law (as part of the longer, integrated double degree structure), applying all that reading, analysis and critical thinking you’ve built. On the business side you draw on everything you’ve learned so far — perhaps exploring electives or specialisations — to craft a well-rounded understanding of business operations within a legal and ethical framework.

Year 5 (Final Phase / Integration)
The final stretch brings it all together. You’ll complete any remaining units in both business and law to reach the full 240-credit requirement. By now, you’ll be comfortable navigating complex business challenges with a sound legal grounding. Whether it’s corporate governance, contracts, compliance, finance, management or ethics — you’ll have the tools to tackle it all.
