4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Queensland

Program Overview

Program Overview:
The Bachelor of Advanced Business (Honours) at the University of Queensland is a four‑year, honours‑embedded undergraduate degree designed for high-achieving students. It gives you the chance to explore all core areas of business while specialising in two majors from a choice of eight advanced options. This program is perfect for students who aspire to leadership roles and want to develop the analytical, strategic, and reflective skills that employers highly value today.

Curriculum Structure:

Year One:
In your first year, you’ll build a solid foundation across key business disciplines. You’ll study courses like Transforming Business with Information Systems, Financial Management for Business, Foundations of Marketing, and Entrepreneurial Mindset and Ideation. You’ll also gain exposure to business analytics, international business, and human resource management through courses such as Principles of Business Analytics, International Business Management, and Introduction to Human Resource Management.

Year Two:
In your second year, you’ll start delving deeper into your chosen majors while maintaining a broad business perspective. Core courses include Management Accounting Principles, Microeconomics for Business, Macroeconomics for Business, and Business Law. If you choose Marketing as a major, you might take Consumer Behaviour or Brand Management/Service and Relationship Marketing.

Year Three:
The third year focuses on advanced topics and preparing for your capstone research. You’ll take Business Research Strategy alongside major-specific advanced units, such as Marketing Strategy in Marketing or Prescriptive Analytics for Business in Business Analytics. This is also the year where you can work on real projects, case studies, or live business challenges.

Year Four:
In your final year, everything comes together with honours-level work. You’ll complete your major capstone courses and a leadership or strategy practicum, like Leadership and Strategy Practicum. You’ll also take advanced courses in your major (for example, Advanced Studies in Finance or Advanced Studies in Marketing) and electives to broaden or deepen your expertise. This final year is designed to prepare you to step confidently into the business world.

Focus Areas:
You’ll learn to combine core business disciplines—accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, analytics, information systems, entrepreneurship, and international business—while specialising in two majors and applying your knowledge to real-world problem-solving and strategic projects.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the program, you will be able to critically evaluate complex business challenges, integrate insights across disciplines, and create innovative solutions to real organisational problems.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
Some majors, such as Accounting, can lead to eligibility for professional bodies like Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) and Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA), provided specific requirements are met.

Reputation (Employability Rankings):
UQ’s Business School is highly respected globally, ranking 65th in the world for Business & Economics in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

From day one, you’ll be doing more than just sitting in lectures and taking exams — you’ll gain practical skills using modern business tools, collaborate in teams, and tackle real-world industry challenges. UQ’s Business School describes this programme as combining “advanced coursework and authentic learning experiences,” ensuring you’re well-prepared for careers in consulting, strategy, and leadership.

In this programme you’ll:

  • Work on real-world projects: Capstone courses are designed for each major, giving you the chance to apply your knowledge to actual companies. For example, in the Business Analytics major, you’ll work on live case studies and present your insights to industry professionals.

  • Tailor your degree to your goals: Choose two majors in the professional pathway from eight specialisations — Accounting; Business Analytics; Business Information Systems; Finance; Human Resources; Innovation & Entrepreneurship; International Business; Marketing — and shape your studies around your career ambitions.

  • Access exclusive courses: Half of the core courses (7 out of 14) are unique to this Honours programme, creating a smaller, high-achieving cohort where you can thrive.

  • Engage with industry: Take part in consulting projects or short placements relevant to your major. For instance, in Innovation & Entrepreneurship, you might collaborate with a startup or commercial partner.

  • Build a professional network: Enjoy structured networking opportunities and cohort-exclusive courses that help you connect with peers and future employers.

  • Learn with top-notch resources: Your learning is supported through lectures, tutorials, seminars, placements, and lab work, giving you a well-rounded and hands-on experience.

What you’ll experience day-to-day:

  • Master business analytics tools: In the Business Analytics major, you’ll explore predictive and prescriptive analytics, data visualisation, and even machine learning and deep learning applied to real business contexts.

  • Collaborate in teams: Many capstone courses involve group work where you solve organisational problems and present solutions to industry decision-makers.

  • Industry placements and consulting projects: Some majors, like Innovation & Entrepreneurship, let you work directly with commercial partners or startups.

  • Research and honours-year option: If you choose the research pathway, you’ll complete a thesis year with specialised coursework, giving you a head start in research or advanced roles.

  • Access to Business School infrastructure: As part of this advanced business degree, you join a select cohort with dedicated courses and connections to leading employers.

  • Keep up with current business technologies: Majors like Business Information Systems teach you how to gather requirements, design, implement, and manage IT systems to support business decisions.
