Bachelor of Business

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Australian Catholic University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business at ACU is an energizing, broadly-based business degree that gives you the flexibility to tailor your studies — whether you’re leaning toward accounting, data analytics, marketing, human resources or management. It’s ideal for someone who wants to learn real-world business skills, explore different career pathways, and graduate ready to lead, create impact or launch something new.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year dives into the foundations of business: you’ll study units like Financial Literacy, Marketing Essentials, Information Technology in Action, and Managing People and Organisations. These courses will help you understand how money flows, how markets work, and how organisations operate — giving you a solid base in business thinking and teamwork.

Year 2
In the second year you’ll begin building depth: you’ll take core business major units, choose a second major or minor if you like, and engage in a unit like Community Engagement: Building Strengths and Capabilities. At the same time you’ll explore more specialised topics, shaping your degree toward areas you’re passionate about.

Year 3
By year three you’re working on advanced major-level units and likely refining your minor or second major. This is where theory meets real platforms — you’ll sharpen your understanding of business disciplines, polish your analytical and decision-making skills, and deepen your practical knowledge.

Focus Areas
Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Data Analytics, Human Resource Management, Management, Business Administration

Learning Outcomes
Gain a strong foundation in business fundamentals, develop practical skills across finance/marketing/management/data analytics or HR, and become adaptable to various industries and roles.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

When you study the Bachelor of Business at ACU, you’re not just sitting in classrooms memorising theories — you’re actually getting out there and doing business. From day one, you’ll be building real skills in real workplaces, learning how companies operate and discovering what it feels like to contribute to meaningful projects. It’s the kind of experience that makes employers say, “Wow — this student is job-ready.”

What makes ACU genuinely special is its strong focus on work-integrated learning. Through the Peter Faber Business School, you’ll have chances to work on real projects, take part in professional placements, and engage with organisations across the corporate, government and not-for-profit worlds. You’ll grow your confidence, sharpen essential soft skills like teamwork and communication, and start building a professional network before you even graduate — all while earning credit towards your degree.

Whether you’re drawn to marketing, finance, HR, management or events, ACU gives you the chance to explore it hands-on and discover what you love.

Here’s what hands-on learning actually looks like at ACU:

• Industry internships and placements
Spend around three weeks (about 105 hours) working with real businesses or community organisations in areas like marketing, accounting, HR, event management, IT or finance — and walk away with real experience for your CV.

• Community-engaged learning
Through the “Building Strengths and Capabilities” unit, you’ll volunteer 35–70 hours with social enterprises or community organisations, gaining insight into how business can support social impact.

• Consulting-style projects
Work with external organisations through the Student Consultancy Hub — contributing to marketing strategies, HR policies, financial plans and more.

• International study tours and virtual global internships

Progression & Future Opportunities

Progression & Future Opportunities
Graduating from ACU’s Bachelor of Business opens doors to a wide variety of roles across industries — you’ll be equipped to join the workforce confidently and flexibly. Many alumni go on to build meaningful, stable careers, and some pivot later depending on their interests.

Typical job roles for graduates include:

  • Business analyst or business development associate

  • Marketing executive or marketing coordinator

  • Human resources or recruitment officer

  • Financial management / accounting / administration roles

Here’s what this means for you:

  • Support for employability: ACU embeds a “Business Foundation” program at the start to help you transition to university study smoothly and build core business skills (finance, marketing, management, communication) before you specialise.

  • Practical experience: The program includes workplace or community placements — giving you real-world exposure even before you graduate. This means you won’t just learn theory, but also how businesses operate in practice.

  • Industry-recognised credentials: ACU’s business courses carry professional recognition from accounting and business-related professional bodies — which enhances your CV, especially if you plan to work in finance, HR or management.

  • Versatility and choice: Because it’s a generalist business degree, you’re not locked into one narrow path. You can explore different aspects of business (marketing, finance, HR, management) and later specialise once you understand where your passion lies.

  • Good graduate outcomes: ACU has a strong track record: many undergraduates go on to full-time employment soon after graduation — giving you a reliable springboard into the job market.

Further Academic Progression:
After finishing the Bachelor of Business at ACU, you can easily choose to specialise further or pivot into a more advanced qualification. For example, you might enroll in a postgraduate business program (like a master’s in business, management, analytics, or related fields) to deepen expertise. If you’re interested in accountancy, finance or HR, the professional recognition from ACU’s undergraduate degree puts you in a strong position to qualify for advanced credentials or certifications.
