Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Monash University

Program Overview

Program Overview
The Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Arts at Monash University gives you the exciting chance to develop expertise in two distinct areas. On one side, you’ll dive into core business disciplines such as finance, marketing, and management. On the other, you can explore the humanities or social sciences, choosing from almost 40 majors and minors. This dual-degree path is ideal for students who want flexibility to pursue both their professional ambitions and personal interests, offering a richer experience than a traditional single-degree program.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year sets a strong foundation in both business and arts. In business, you’ll study units such as Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Management, and Marketing Theory and Practice, which cover accounting, management principles, and marketing basics. At the same time, your arts studies will give you a broad introduction to areas like communications, psychology, or international relations, helping you explore different fields and identify your preferred major.

Year 2
In your second year, you’ll start to specialise while deepening your business knowledge. You’ll take units such as Business Statistics, Microeconomics, and Business Law, applying quantitative and legal thinking to real-world business problems. Meanwhile, your arts studies progress into second-year units in your chosen major and minor, allowing you to engage with more advanced ideas and refine your academic focus.

Year 3 & 4
During the final two years, you’ll focus on advanced topics and complete your specialisations. In business, you’ll select a major—such as International Business, Human Resource Management, or Marketing—and complete an eight-unit major component, including a capstone project like Business and Design or Issues in Global Business. In arts, you’ll finish your major (eight units) and minor (four units), including level-three units that enhance your critical thinking, research, and communication skills. By the end of the program, you’ll graduate with two full bachelor’s degrees, each with depth, focus, and real-world relevance.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Here’s an overview of the Bachelor of Business and Arts at Monash University — and especially how you’ll gain practical, real-world experience throughout your studies.

From your very first year, you’ll be doing far more than just attending lectures. You’ll take part in hands-on projects and interdisciplinary teamwork that bring business and arts together in exciting ways. With access to Monash’s modern facilities — from collaborative business simulation spaces to arts studios and the on-campus museum — you’ll develop practical skills in marketing, management, communications, cultural understanding, digital strategy, and creativity. Monash emphasises flexible learning, so you can shape your studies across a wide range of majors and minors (over 50 to choose from) while building real, career-ready skills.

Here’s what that experiential learning looks like in this program:

  • Many course units focus on group work and interdisciplinary projects that combine business and arts perspectives — so you’ll collaborate, innovate, and present to real audiences.

  • You’ll have opportunities to select majors or minors that include field trips, industry visits, and cultural experiences — for example, in arts, communications, international relations, or business management.

  • The program is designed with flexibility, allowing you to choose units that tackle real-life challenges and include work-integrated learning. For example, capstone-style projects such as the “Experiential Learning Project” let you learn through internships, volunteering, or even launching your own start-up.

  • You’ll gain access to Monash’s rich learning environment: campus libraries, business labs, arts studios, and exhibition spaces like the Monash University Museum of Art all support your journey from theory to practice.

  • Monash also supports digital and reflective tools — units often include blogging, video production, and storytelling to help you reflect on your experiences while building your digital skills.

With this strong practical foundation, this double degree isn’t just academic — it’s designed to make you career-ready, giving you skills you can start using from your very first year.

University–Industry Partnerships

Through the Arts faculty, you’ll have access to internships and exposure to organisations like the ABC, Foxtel, Matchbox Pictures, and major radio networks.

From the Business side, you can participate in capstone or project units, such as Industry Project or Current Issues in Business, that connect you directly with real companies.

Long-Term Value of the Degree

Your Business studies are professionally recognised, meaning certain majors meet accreditation requirements for professional bodies.

Having a double degree in Business and Arts gives you both technical credibility and broad critical-thinking skills, which employers highly value. You’ll be able to think laterally, communicate across disciplines, and adapt to a range of industries.

Graduation Outcomes

After completing the 4-year program, you’ll graduate with two full bachelor’s degrees — a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Arts.

You also have the flexibility to exit early after three years with either single degree, depending on the courses you’ve completed.

Further Academic Progression

After your BBus/BA, you can apply for Honours in either discipline:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) — if your business major allows

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) — especially if you have strong academic results in your arts major

Beyond Honours, you could pursue master’s degrees, such as an MBA, Master of International Relations, or other specialist masters aligned with your Arts major.

For research-minded students, there’s the option to continue into PhD programs in either Business or Arts, using your double-degree background to explore interdisciplinary topics like cultural economics, organisational behaviour, or media studies.

This double degree is powerful because it doesn’t force you to choose between business or arts. Instead, you gain strong training in both areas, giving you flexibility and depth for a career that’s as dynamic as your interests.
