Fine Art and Business

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Monash University

Program Overview

Program Overview
The Bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Business at Monash University lets you combine your creativity with strong business skills. You’ll explore painting, sculpture, curatorial practices, and exhibition design, while also learning management, marketing, accounting, or international business. This double degree is perfect if you’re passionate about art or culture but also want practical skills and career versatility—you’ll gain both the creative expertise and the business know-how to make your ideas thrive in the real world.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a solid foundation. In the fine art stream, you’ll take units like Studio Practices 1 or Introduction to Contemporary Art, developing your hands-on creative skills and visual thinking. At the same time, the business stream introduces you to how organisations operate, with units like Microeconomics, Business Statistics, or Accounting Foundations.

Year 2
Year 2 deepens both streams. You might study Studio Practices 3 and a fine art elective, further developing your creative voice. On the business side, you’ll move into more specialised areas, with units such as Business Law, Marketing Principles, or Management Studies, learning how businesses make decisions and communicate strategies.

Years 3 & 4
In the final years, both streams come together. Your fine art pathway could culminate in a major studio project or a graduand exhibition, alongside advanced units in art theory, curating, history, and practice. The business component allows you to choose a major—like international business, marketing, or accounting—and select electives tailored to your interests. By the end of Year 4, you’ll be ready to navigate both creative production and business strategy with confidence.

Focus Areas
Creative practice and visual arts (studio, drawing, history/theory), business foundations (economics, accounting, management), advanced business majors (marketing, international business, entrepreneurship), integration of art and business in cultural industries.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

You’ll develop practical skills by working in fully equipped studios, workshops, and real-world business settings. On the fine art side, you’ll explore a variety of mediums, complete studio-based projects, and grow your own artistic practice in a supportive environment. On the business side, you’ll apply creative thinking to management, marketing, accounting, and international business challenges. At the Caulfield campus, you’ll have access to dedicated art and design facilities alongside business teaching spaces, allowing you to move seamlessly between making and managing, theory and practice. Through the double-degree structure, you’ll learn to apply creative work in professional contexts and bring business thinking into the creative industries.

Here are the key experiential-learning features of the program:

Studio-based workshops and practical art-making: You’ll immerse yourself in drawing, painting, digital media, and other fine art specializations through theme-focused studies, studio units, and hands-on workshops.

Exhibition and project work: You’ll work towards a final graduand exhibition (for visual arts specializations) that showcases your professional creative output.

Business foundation and application: You’ll complete foundational business units and then specialise in a major such as marketing, management, or accounting, giving you the tools to apply your creative skills in real business contexts.

Access to the Monash Art, Design & Architecture (MADA) community: At Caulfield, you’ll learn alongside students in fine art, design, and architecture, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and real-world creative industry experience.

Elective flexibility and enriched learning experiences: You’ll have opportunities for global immersion, innovation projects, and a wide range of electives to expand your learning beyond the core curriculum.
