Bachelor of Business

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

RMIT University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business (BP343) at RMIT is a three‑year, flexible degree that empowers you to build a business education tailored to your interests — whether that’s in global markets, technology, or change leadership. Through a mix of core business foundations, a major (or minor) of your choice, and a final capstone project, you’ll graduate ready to think strategically, act innovatively, and lead confidently in today’s fast‑moving business world.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: In your first year, you lay the groundwork with four foundational core subjects like Understanding the Business Environment and Business Decision Making. You’ll also dive into how business works within society (Business in Society) and tackle complex challenges with Integrated Perspectives on Business Problems. This year builds your business vocabulary, sharpens your analytical thinking, and gives you a holistic view of how organisations operate.

Year 2: With the basics in place, Year 2 is where you begin specialising. You’ll take major-specific courses — for example, in a Business & Technology major you might study Business Challenges in the Digital Economy, plus electives such as Cybersecurity Governance. Alongside this, you’ll mix in complementary subjects from minors or second majors, letting you shape your own unique academic journey.

Year 3: In your final year, you’ll bring everything together. You’ll take a capstone subject — Business Graduate Portfolio — where you synthesise your learning into a real-world-ready project. For those in technology-focused majors, other experiences like Open Innovation let you work on industry-style briefs. This is your moment to reflect, showcase your skills, and build something you can confidently present to future employers.

Focus Areas:
Customisable majors and minors in areas such as Business & Technology, Global Business, Information Systems, Marketing, Management & Change, and more.

Learning Outcomes:
You’ll graduate with strategic thinking, digital fluency, cross-disciplinary problem-solving, and the ability to communicate and lead in business environments.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
If you choose the Business Information Systems major, the course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society, meaning your learning aligns with industry standards and opens doors to tech-driven roles.

Reputation (Employability):
RMIT’s Business School is well regarded globally, and its strong connections with industry — combined with a curriculum that’s co‑designed with real businesses — help graduates land meaningful roles in consulting, data analytics, technology management, and more.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

From the moment you start this degree, it’s not just about lectures or textbooks — it’s about learning by doing. You’ll take on real-world business challenges, reflect on your experiences, and gradually build a professional portfolio that showcases your skills by the time you graduate. The program is designed around active, project-based learning, so you don’t just study business theory — you live it, test it, and apply it.

Here are some of the key real-world learning opportunities in the Bachelor of Business:

Business Graduate Folio (Capstone): In your final semester, you’ll complete the Business Graduate Folio course. This is your chance to pull together everything you’ve learned into a professional portfolio, ready to impress future employers.

Major-specific Capstone Projects: Depending on your major, you’ll dive into specialized capstone projects. For example, if you choose the Blockchain‑Enabled Business major, you’ll work on a hands-on Blockchain Application Project that demonstrates your expertise.

Live Industry Projects & Simulations: In majors like Strategy & Innovation, you’ll tackle gamified learning, business simulations, and real-world challenges co-developed with industry partners, giving you a taste of real business decision-making.

Industry Placements & Internships (WIL): There’s an elective internship unit where you can secure a placement in a workplace relevant to your field. You’ll work under a mentor, gain practical experience, and contribute meaningfully while still receiving academic support.

Micro‑internships via RMIT Industry Experiences Program: Through this co-curricular program, you’ll join small teams to work on real briefs from companies, complete short virtual internships, and receive mentorship — all while building tangible projects for your portfolio.

Technology‑Driven Projects (for Business & Technology majors): You’ll get hands-on experience with digital transformation projects using real tools like AI, blockchain, and cybersecurity, all embedded into your coursework.

Industry‑Designed Case Studies and Labs: Many courses include business simulations, experiments, and case studies designed alongside real companies, giving you the chance to solve business problems just as you would in a professional setting.
