Established in 1887 as Working Men’s College, the RMIT University is an Australian public research university located in Melbourne, Australia. The university also has campuses in the Melbourne metropolitan area which are located in the suburbs of Brunswick and Bundoora. Outside Australia, it has a presence in Asia and Europe. In Asia, it has two branch campuses in Vietnam which are located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and maintains teaching partnerships in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. In Europe, it has a coordinating centre in Barcelona, Spain.

The total number of students enrolled at the university is more than 83,000 of which over 44,000 are enrolled in the undergraduate level. The student to faculty ratio at RMIT is 17:1.
RMIT focuses on applied research as well as outcome-related research and consultancy services. It has extensive partnerships with government and industry and mainly focuses its research in the areas of design, technology, health, globalization and sustainability. Its programs in arts and design are ranked highest in Australia.
