Bachelor of Business

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Wollongong

Program Overview

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Building Your Foundation

Your first year is all about getting comfortable with the core areas of business. You’ll explore subjects like Principles of Responsible Business, Marketing Principles, Introduction to Management and Professional Communication. These early subjects help you understand how organisations operate, how to communicate confidently, and how to approach business decisions with an ethical mindset. It’s a great year to discover which areas excite you most.

Year 2 – Finding Your Direction

Once you know the basics, you’ll start shaping your degree around your interests. Depending on your major, you might step into subjects such as Accounting in Organisations, Statistics for Business, or Business-Oriented Information Systems. These second-year subjects deepen your analytical, financial and technical capabilities and help you build a clearer picture of the kind of business professional you’re becoming.

Year 3 – Bringing It All Together

In your final year, everything starts to click. You’ll take advanced subjects in your major and complete a capstone experience where you apply what you’ve learned to real business challenges. Subjects like Strategic Management or International Business Management guide your thinking at a higher, more strategic level. Many students also choose to complete an internship for credit, which is a powerful way to gain real-world experience before graduating.

Professional Alignment & Accreditation

UOW’s Business School holds prestigious AACSB accreditation — a global benchmark held by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide. Many individual majors add an extra layer of recognition too. For example, the Accountancy major aligns with CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants ANZ, the Finance major is connected with the CFA Institute Affiliation Program, and the Human Resource Management major is recognised by the Australian Human Resources Institute. These accreditations help your degree carry real weight in the industry.

Reputation & Employability

UOW business graduates enjoy excellent employment outcomes, with the vast majority securing roles shortly after completing their degree. Graduates typically earn significantly more than those entering the workforce straight after school, reflecting the strong industry value placed on this qualification.

The Business Internship Program is another standout — students get the chance to work with well-known companies like KPMG, NAB, Mercer and Accor. These opportunities give you hands-on experience and a real competitive edge when stepping into the job market.

Why This Program Might Be Right for You

  • You want flexibility: Start broad, then choose a major or even a double major once you know what you love.

  • You value practical learning: Internships, projects and a hands-on capstone help you apply your knowledge in real settings.

  • You care about global recognition: Professional accreditation and AACSB status give your degree strong credibility worldwide.

  • You’re passionate about ethical, sustainable business: UOW places a strong emphasis on responsible business practices.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

In the Bachelor of Business at UOW, you’re not just sitting through lectures — you’re stepping into real business environments from the moment you begin. The program is built to help you apply what you learn, not just remember it. You’ll see yourself becoming more confident with analysing problems, communicating ideas, and thinking strategically as you tackle genuine business challenges. With the UOW Business Internship Program, you’ll work directly with industry professionals, turning classroom knowledge into practical skills while building valuable connections that can shape your future career.

You’ll also take part in consulting-style projects that mirror the work done by top business advisors, giving you a feel for strategy, innovation, and professional problem-solving. And because UOW emphasises responsible and ethical business practices, you’ll graduate with a global outlook and a strong sense of purpose — ready to contribute meaningfully to the business world.

Here’s how you’ll gain hands-on experience:

20-day for-credit internships (BUS 395):
You’ll have the chance to complete structured, for-credit internships arranged either by UOW or sourced independently by you. These placements can be done in a short intensive block or woven into your regular study weeks, giving you real workplace exposure while earning credit toward your degree.

Combined Study Abroad + Internship (COMM 390):
If you decide to study overseas, you can choose a subject that links your international experience with a practical role in a company abroad. It’s a powerful way to learn business in a global context while expanding your cultural and professional horizons.

Interactive Business Challenges:
Throughout your degree, you’ll work on genuine consultancy-style tasks where companies present real operational or strategic issues. You’ll collaborate in teams to design solutions — just like you would in a professional consulting environment.

Capstone (final-year) projects:
In your final year, you’ll take on interdisciplinary projects that push you to combine everything you’ve learned. These projects are designed to mirror real business problem-solving, giving you a chance to prove your readiness for industry.

Industry-connected learning:
UOW’s Business Internship program has strong partnerships with well-known organisations including KPMG, Mercer, NAB, and Accor. These connections open doors to placements and opportunities with some of Australia’s leading companies.

Entrepreneurial learning through iAccelerate:
If you’re drawn to entrepreneurship, you can take part in UOW’s startup accelerator. Here, you’ll work on real business ideas, pitch them, and learn how to grow a venture in a supportive, innovation-focused environment.

Responsible and ethical business learning:
Because UOW is aligned with the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education, you’ll be encouraged to make decisions that balance profitability with social and environmental responsibility. It ensures you graduate as a business professional who leads with integrity and purpose.

Typical job roles:
Many graduates move into positions such as:

  • Business Analyst

  • Marketing Coordinator or Manager

  • Human Resources Officer or Manager

  • Financial Analyst or Consultant

Career Services & Employment Support

UOW genuinely invests in helping you transition from student life into your professional career. Their Careers & Employability team offers personalised support — from one-on-one career chats to resume reviews, interview practice, and long-term career planning sessions.

During your final year, you can also join the “Ignite Your Future” program, which is designed to help you get ready for graduation and feel confident entering the job market. On top of that, UOW hosts a dedicated Graduate Careers Expo, giving you the chance to meet major employers, learn about graduate programs, and start building your network early.

Work-Integrated Learning & Internships

Real-world experience is a major part of the Bachelor of Business. Through the Business Internship Program (BUS 395), eligible students complete around 20 days of industry placement. These opportunities can be arranged through UOW’s wide network of partner organisations or sourced by you — giving you plenty of flexibility and control.

UOW maintains strong links across multiple business fields including accounting, marketing, human resources, and supply chain, so students have access to a broad range of internship options.

Employability-Boosting Programs & Co-Curriculum

On top of your coursework, UOW offers several programs that give you a competitive edge:

  • Work Integrated Learning subjects help you build practical skills, gain professional confidence, and prepare for job applications and interviews.

  • UOWx recognises your co-curricular involvement — such as mentoring, leadership, and innovation activities — with an official transcript you can show employers.

  • Univative, a student consultancy program, allows you to solve real business challenges for partner organisations, helping you build a compelling portfolio of experience.

Industry Partnerships & Recognition

The UOW Business School is AACSB-accredited — a globally recognised benchmark of excellence held by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide. This accreditation signals to employers that your education meets international standards.

UOW also works closely with industry through internships, guest lectures, and recruitment opportunities. Past internships have included placements with leading companies such as Novotel (Oscars Group), where students have worked in HR roles that sometimes lead to ongoing employment.

Graduate Outcomes & Employment Rates

UOW business graduates enjoy strong employment outcomes. More than 90% of students secure jobs after completing their degree, and a large proportion find full-time work within just a few months. On average, UOW reports that business graduates earn significantly more than individuals who finish only Year 12 — in some cases up to 50% more.

Alumni Support & Mentoring

Even after graduation, UOW continues to support you for up to two years through career consultations, events, and job-readiness programs. You can also join the UOW Mentoring Program, which connects students with experienced alumni who provide professional advice, industry insights, and personalised guidance.
