Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Global Studies

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Australian Catholic University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Global Studies at ACU gives you a powerful combination of business‑know‑how and a global perspective. It’s ideal for students who want to succeed in business while understanding how global forces — cultural, political, economic — affect organisations and communities.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You begin by building a solid foundation: in business, you’ll take units like Financial Literacy and Information Technology in Action, so you understand money, tech, and how modern business works. Alongside that, your global‑studies journey starts with Introduction to International Relations and Global History: Six Degrees of Separation, which will open your mind to how nations, cultures, and economies are interconnected.

Year 2
This year is about growing your business toolkit: you might study Marketing Essentials and Managing People and Organisations, learning both how to reach markets and how teams function. In global studies, you’ll explore either Global Society and Change or Sustainability: The Global Challenge, encouraging you to think critically about worldwide social and environmental issues.

Year 3
(While exact units vary, this is where your learning deepens.) You’ll likely tackle intermediate‑level business units such as Principles of Finance and Organisational Behaviour, developing more advanced financial literacy and leadership capacity. On the global side, you may work on a Global Studies Research Project or choose electives/minors — perhaps in politics, economics, or environment — to tailor your study to what fascinates you.

Year 4
This final year brings your degree together through a global experience: you’ll pick either to do an international semester abroad, study in a special semester (like the Rome programme), or take an international internship — all contributing credit toward your Global Studies International Experience requirement. Plus, you’ll finish advanced business units such as Strategic Management or Design Thinking for Business Strategy, preparing you to lead, innovate, and make a real impact.

Learning Outcomes
You’ll graduate ready to blend business skills and global insight — confident in strategy, culturally sensitive, and equipped to navigate international challenges in your career.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)
This double degree embeds real-world readiness: professional business placements within Australia, and globally through internships or study abroad. With Microsoft certification integrated into core business units, you’ll finish with both hands‑on experience and widely valued digital skills.

Reputation (Employability Rankings)
Studying at ACU means you benefit from its strong academic reputation and practical orientation. Graduates from this program are well regarded by employers, especially those in multinational corporations, not‑for‑profits, and international organisations — reflecting ACU’s commitment to both academic quality and real-world relevance.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Global Studies at ACU is all about turning what you learn in the classroom into real-world action. You won’t just be studying global markets or international relations — you’ll be stepping into them. With Microsoft certification built into your courses, you’ll graduate not just with business knowledge, but also practical digital skills that employers truly value. And that’s just the start — you’ll have access to industry placements, overseas internships, and even an international semester, so your education is shaped by both learning and hands-on experience.

Here’s how you’ll get real-world experience throughout your degree:

International Semester: Immerse yourself in a new culture by studying abroad at one of ACU’s 60+ partner universities, including an English-speaking campus in Italy. It’s a fantastic way to broaden your perspective and strengthen your intercultural skills.

Global Internship (GLST 300): Work with organisations overseas — or, in some cases, in Australia — gaining professional experience, transferable skills, and the independence that comes from stepping into the working world.

Professional Placement in Australia: Complete up to 150 hours (or at least 100 days) of business placement locally, giving you a real taste of industry operations, workplace culture, and business processes.

Community Engagement: Get involved in volunteer placements embedded in your courses, learning about social enterprise, sustainability, and how businesses can make a positive impact in society.

Collaborative Projects & Group Work: Across units like Managing People and Organisations, Marketing Essentials, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation, you’ll tackle team-based projects that bring together strategy, innovation, and leadership skills.

Digital Tools & Certification: Microsoft certification is woven into your learning, so you’ll leave with hands-on experience in widely used enterprise software — making you job-ready from day one.

Language & Cultural Skills: You can pair your degree with a Diploma in Languages (Spanish or Italian), boosting your global employability and complementing your international experiences.

Through all these opportunities, you’ll graduate not only with strong business knowledge, but also with real-world experience, global awareness, digital skills, and a professional network — giving you a head start in your career.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates of this program often step into meaningful, well-rounded careers — many land roles in business, international organisations, or global‑minded enterprises. Some typical job roles our grads take up include business analyst or developer, international marketing or business management positions, management consultancy, HR or recruitment roles, or working in multinational corporations or public‑sector organisations.

Here’s what this means for you:

  • Support for employability & real‑world readiness: ACU builds practical work experience directly into the degree — you’ll complete up to 150 hours (or minimum 100 days) of professional experience. There’s also the option of a business placement in Australia and an international internship or study abroad at one of ACU’s 60–plus global partner universities, giving you both local and global exposure.

  • A globally aware business education: You won’t just learn business fundamentals — you’ll also gain a solid understanding of globalisation, world politics, cultural diversity and global economic trends. That makes you more versatile and prepared for roles in multinational settings or organisations dealing with international markets.

  • Enhanced skills employers value: The program embeds industry‑relevant skills — for instance, students graduate with knowledge of Microsoft tools commonly used in workplaces. There’s also optional language study (Spanish or Italian), which can boost employability in international business or organisations.

  • Breadth of career pathways: Because it combines business + global studies, you’re not locked into one narrow path. Grads have pursued careers in banking, financial management, marketing, human resources, business development, international business — and even roles in social enterprise or global development if you lean toward that.

  • Impact and social awareness built in: ACU places emphasis on empathy, ethical understanding, social justice and global citizenship. If you care about working in organisations or roles with a global, multicultural or socially responsible dimension, this program equips you with mindset and skills for just that.

Further Academic Progression:
Once you finish this double‑degree, you’ll have a strong foundation to go further if you wish — for example, you could pursue a master’s in business, international business, global development, or international relations. Because ACU combines business and global studies, you’ll have the flexibility to enter either a traditional business‑oriented postgraduate path or a more globally focused postgraduate track. This flexibility keeps your options open, whether you want to climb the corporate ladder, shift into international development / non‑profit / global organisations, or even specialise in areas like global trade, sustainability or cross‑cultural management.

In short: if you want a business degree that doesn’t limit you to one kind of job — but instead gives you the tools to work globally, adapt across sectors, and grow in many directions — this program is a very smart, future‑proof choice.
