Program Overview:
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at the University of Wollongong (UOW) gives you a strong foundation in both the technical and professional aspects of engineering. Curriculum Structure:
Year 1:
You’ll start by building a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals through core subjects such as Foundations of Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Computing and Analysis, Materials in Design, and Electrical Systems. These subjects introduce you to the essential principles behind engineering systems and develop your skills in teamwork, communication, and analytical thinking.

Year 2:
From your second year, you’ll move into your chosen major and begin to specialise. You’ll study more advanced topics related to your discipline—for example, Mechanics of Machines or Energy Systems if you choose mechanical engineering. You’ll also gain hands-on experience through lab work, design projects, and industry-focused assignments. This is when you begin your professional experience component.

Years 3 & 4:
In your final years, you’ll dive deeper into advanced and specialised areas within your major. Depending on your chosen stream, this could include topics like Control Theory and Robotics for mechatronics or Mine Planning and Environmental Impact for mining engineering. You’ll also complete a 12-week industry placement and a significant engineering project or thesis. These experiences bring together everything you’ve learned—design, research, sustainability, and teamwork—preparing you for professional engineering practice.
