Bachelor of Arts Italian

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Flinders University

Program Overview

Italy has one of the richest cultural heritages in western civilisation and has been a world leader in literature, architecture, painting, sculpture and music for the past 800 years. The first university was founded in Bologna in 1290, and it later opened the first School of Law, which attracted scholars from all over Europe. Banking and accountancy were invented in Italy in the late Middle Ages. Today Italy is one of the seven wealthiest nations in the world and an essential tourist destination. Italy is a major trading partner with Australia (and increasingly with South Australia) and the Italian language is a pathway to employment. Italian is the second most widely spoken language in Australia, with more than half a million Italian Australians using it every day. You can practise and use Italian in your own community; in fact, you can virtually 'live' Italian in South Australia, The first Italian came to South Australia in 1839, and since then citizens of Italian origin have made major contributions to the development of the State.
