History can be a part of any degree and should be an essential part of your university training. You can specialise in it. It can complement your vocational courses. You can take individual topics. History deals with big issues: global migration, the population explosion, famine, technological change, human impact on the environment, the explosive consequences of nationalism, war and society, the rise and fall of empires, revolution, decolonisation, democracy, fascism and communism. These are taught in the fields of Australian, European, American and International history. You may focus on one area or study a combination of topics on different parts of the world. Both approaches have their advantages and are equally encouraged. History's topics are taught so that you are offered the greatest flexibility and choice in topic selection. Special emphasis is placed on methods of analysis and the use of historical evidence.
