Curriculum Structure

In the first year, students build a foundation in sociology, psychology, and social work practice through units such as Sociology: Understanding the Social World, Introduction to Social Work and Human Service Practice, and Introducing Indigenous Lifeworlds. These subjects help students understand human behaviour, society, and the role of social work in addressing inequality.

In the second year, students deepen their understanding of social issues and practice through units like Children, Protection and Justice, Sustainable Community Practice, and Social Problems and Social Policy. At this stage, they explore topics such as mental health, justice systems, and community wellbeing while developing core communication and assessment skills.

In the third year, students move into more advanced professional training through units such as Theorising Social Work Practice, Communication and Assessment Skills in Social Work, and Social Work Practicum 1. This year includes supervised placement in real service settings, where students apply their learning in practice.

In the fourth (Honours) year, students focus on advanced practice and research through units such as Social Work Research and Evaluation, Responding to Violence, Abuse and Trauma, and a final practicum. This final stage strengthens specialist skills and prepares students for professional social work roles.
