The University of Tasmania is a public research university located in Tasmania, Australia. The university was founded in 1890 and is the fourth oldest university in Australia. The total number of students studying in the university is 33879. The University of Tasmania is affiliated to the ASAIHL and ACU.

University of Tasmania History

The University of Tasmania is a sandstone university. The oldest residential college of the university, Christ College was proposed in 1840 under the council of Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Franklin. The university’s first Doctor of Philosophy degree was awarded to Joan Munro Ford. In 2008, The Australian Maritime College merged with the University of Tasmania.

Southern-Hobart

The Hobart campus of university of Tasmania has Tasmanian Conservatorium of music but it’s no longer accessible to students, staff and public. Hobart campus also has Medical Sciences Precinct, School of Creative Arts and Media and Institute for marine and Antarctic Studies. The Hobart campus also includes Sandy Bay, University Farm, Mount Pleasant Radio Observatory, Greenhill Observatory and The Hedberg.

Northern

The Northern campus consists of Newnham which is Launceston’s main campus. Adjacent to the Newnham campus is The Australian Maritime College. The northern campus also has The Tasmanian College of Arts and the School of Architecture & Design.

North-West

The north-west campus consists of Cradle Coast which was established in 1995, Rural Clinical School and West Park.

Sydney

The Sydney campus consists of Darlinghurst which was established in 2006 and Rozelle which was established in 2010.
