Program Overview

Monash’s Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science is a strong choice for students who want to connect scientific knowledge with business, data, management, finance, marketing, sustainability or commercial decision-making. Students graduate with two separate degrees — a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Science — and can combine more than 25 science major areas with commerce majors such as accounting, actuarial studies, business analytics, economics, finance, management studies, marketing science and sustainability.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
Students begin with core commerce foundations and introductory science study. The course map includes ACC1100 Introduction to Financial Accounting or ACC1001 Accounting Fundamentals, BTC1110 Commercial Law, ECC1000 Principles of Microeconomics or ECX2953 Economics, and ETC1000 Business and Economic Statistics, alongside two level 1 approved science sequences.

Year 2:
Students start building stronger management, marketing, communication and science-major knowledge. They study MGC1010 Introduction to Management, MKC1200 Principles of Marketing, SCI1000 Science Communication to Influence Change, one commerce elective, one commerce major unit, science electives and level 2 science major units.

Year 3:
Students move deeper into their chosen commerce major and science major, allowing them to shape the degree around a specific career direction. This could include combinations such as Applied Mathematics with Actuarial Studies or Econometrics, Environmental Science with Sustainability, or Pharmacology with Marketing Science.

Year 4:
In the final year, students complete advanced commerce major units, level 3 science major units, science electives and a commerce capstone option. The course map notes that students may complete a capstone, consulting project, international experience or internship, helping them bring together commercial and scientific learning before graduation.
