Program Overview

The Bachelor of Communication in Creative Writing combined with the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation at UTS is a four-year double degree for students who want to develop strong storytelling skills while also learning how to think creatively and solve complex, real-world problems. Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In your first year, you build core foundations in communication, storytelling, and innovation through subjects such as Communication and Society, Communication and Technology, and Narrative in Theory and Practice. Alongside this, you begin developing creative writing skills while studying innovation subjects like Problems to Possibilities and Creative Practice and Methods, which introduce new ways of thinking and solving problems.

Year 2

In year two, you strengthen your creative writing abilities through subjects such as Imagining the Real and Writing Through Form and Genre, where you explore different narrative styles and storytelling techniques. At the same time, innovation subjects like Creativity and Complexity and Leading Innovation help you develop collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Year 3

In the third year, you move into more advanced creative writing with units such as Experiments in Creative Writing, Adaptations, and Publishing Industry Practices, where you refine your writing style and understand how writing works in real publishing contexts. Innovation subjects such as Envisioning Futures also encourage you to explore how ideas can develop into future-focused projects.

Year 4

In your final year, you complete a major creative writing project along with the Creative Intelligence Capstone and Industry Innovation Project. This year brings together everything you have learned, allowing you to produce a professional portfolio while demonstrating strong creative and innovative thinking.
