Build compilers, operating systems and communications software that developers use to create applications. In other words, software systems specialists develop the tools that are used by just about everyone else in the computer science or engineering fields. When you study software systems, you ll learn how to design the software you see (the application) and the software you don t see (the operating system) and how to get them to work together. The state-of-the-art labs for high-performance computing, networks and artificial intelligence will give you experience with the tools you will use in the field.
