Program Overview

Develop a holistic understanding of early childhood education and care for children from newborn to 12 years old. Learn through classroom instruction and practical experience working with children, families and professionals in community settings. Develop a deep understanding of knowledge in child development, planning responsive learning environments, curriculum and program design, and advocacy.Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Post-diploma Entrance Option.Students possessing a completed ELCC diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution, may apply through a competitive process directly into the third year of the Bachelor of Child Studies. Students accepted with a post-secondary diploma will normally receive transfer credit for up to 60 credits (20 courses) towards the Bachelor of Child Studies.

Admission is competitive.Applicants must meet both the competitive admission average for the specific program and present specific required courses with the minimum required grades. In addition to meeting general admission requirements, admission to the Bachelor of Child Studies requires the following specific high school courses (or equivalents).Applicants in all admission categories must present:English Language Arts 30-1 - minimum grade 60%,Competitive admission average.Admission to Mount Royal is competitive, meaning students with higher grades will be considered first.High School Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on two highest Group A courses.Mature Applicant: competitive admission average will be calculated on two highest Group A courses.Post-secondary Applicant: competitive Grade Point Average (GPA) will be calculated on the four most recently completed transferable post-secondary courses (minimum 12 credits) completed by December 31.
