Program Overview

The BEd West Kootenay Teacher Education Program (WKTEP) is for those who are interested in teaching in rural and small school settings, which offer unique and exciting opportunities for teaching and learning. WKTEP students will engage in course work at the UBC WKTEP Learning Centre in Nelson, BC, or in various classrooms throughout the region. WKTEP places an emphasis on place-conscious learning with strong ties to local communities and school districts (Nelson, BC, and surrounding communities).

Additional Information & Requirements

Final grade of 70% in Grade 11 or Grade 12 English (or equivalent course, including provincial examinations where applicable), Graduation from high school with a minimum average of 70%, UAE Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-Amma). Certificates must be official, Grades required for admission will vary by program, but based on the UAE grading scale, the minimum average needed to fall within the competitive range is approximately 84% on a 60% pass-scale, Test scores: IELTS of 6.5, with no part less than 6.0, TOEFL iBT of 90.
