Established in 1908, the University of British Columbia is a public university located in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The university was established as McGill University College of British Columbia; the university became independent and adopted its current name in 1915. The university constantly ranks among the top universities. Its faculty and alumni have received 7 Nobel Prizes, 69 Rhodes Scholarships and 65 Olympic medals. The University of British Columbia has its campuses in Vancouver (Main Campus) and Okanagan.

The university comprises of various  schools and faculties: Faculty of Applied Science; School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture; Faculty of Arts; School of Audiology and Speech Sciences; Sauder School of Business; School of Community and Regional Planning; Faculty of Dentistry; Faculty of Education; Faculty of Forestry; School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies; School of Journalism, School of Kinesiology; Faculty of Land and Food Systems; School of Law; School of Library, Archival and Information Studies; Faculty of Medicine; School of Music; School of Nursing and Pharmaceutical Sciences; School of Population and Public Health; Faculty of Science; School of Social Work; UBC Vantage College; School of Economics.

The university has a total student population of more than 62,000 students of which over 52,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate programs. The student to faculty ratio at the University of British Columbia is 11:1. It has one of the largest libraries in Canada with 9.9 million volumes among its 21 branches.  

The University of British Columbia is a member of Universitas 21 (an international association of research-led institutions) and the only Canadian member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, a consortium of 42 leading research universities in the Pacific Rim. It offers several scholarships, notably the 7 Scholarships for STEM fields, the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award for scholars from war-torn countries and the International Leader of Tomorrow Award for scholars worldwide.
