The study of philosophy helps students perfect analytical and critical reading, writing and reasoning skills through an examination of the works of the world s most-celebrated philosophers. The ultimate goal of this study is an understanding of issues fundamental to our nature and our world, including the structure of reality, knowledge, truth, rationality, value, obligation, human nature and the existence of God. The study of these theoretical and practical problems enhances the prospects of those students who wish to pursue journalism, science, law, business, library science, education or medicine, among other disciplines. Philosophy at Western also features the Rotman Institute of Philosophy and theCentre for Digital Philosophy.
Three distinct A-Level (or four distinct AS-Level) traditional academic subjects with grades of A and/or B, GCSE/IGCSE (O-Level) results, IB of 28 including points awarded for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, TOEFL ibT of 83 with no score below 20, PTE of 58 no score less than 56, MELAB of 80 with no score less than 78, IELTS Academic of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0, CAN Test of 4.0, CAEL of 60, Completion of first year requirements with no failures. Student must have an average of at least 70% in 3.0 principal courses with no mark below 60%. 1.0 course from Philosophy 1020, 1022E,1100E, 1200 is recommended
