University of Toronto Scarborough Major Program in Biology Science is a four-year, on-campus program that is structured to provide a strong foundation in the biological sciences. Students develop broad knowledge in core areas while specialising in upper years in sub-disciplines, leading to careers in research, healthcare, environmental science, or education.
Curriculum structure:
Year 1: Will consist of Introductory Biology (BIOA01H3 & BIOA02H3) and Introductory Chemistry (CHMA10H3 & CHMA11H3/CHMA12H3), along with a mathematics or statistics course such as MATA29H3, MATA30H3, STAB22H3, or PSYB07H3.
Year 2: Focuses on core biological concepts with courses in Cell Biology, Molecular Aspects of Cellular and Genetic Processes, Animal Physiology, Plants and Society, Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology. You’ll also complete the Integrative Research Poster Project (BIOB90H3) and select from core laboratory courses like Cell and Molecular Biology Lab, Animal Physiology Lab, Human Development and Anatomy Lab, or Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Lab.
Year 3: Adds to your expertise with 1.5 credits of C-level Biology of your selection (e.g., Neuroethology), and the Integrative Multimedia Documentary Project (BIOC90H3) graduation requirement.
Year 4: Is the year of specialisation with 0.5 credits of D-level courses in Biology, with an option for supervised studies or directed research, so you can pursue independent or faculty-guided research projects.
