Sociology (Arts) : Major sociological theoretical traditions are seen in their historical contexts, as the background to current theoretical issues. Emphasis on Smith, Tocqueville, Marx, Durkheim, Weber and Parsons. An introductory review of methods of sociological research including research design, elementary quantitative data analysis, observation, and use of official statistics. Detailed examination of published examples of the use of each of the major techniques of data analysis and collection.
