Program Overview

The History of Christian Art is a part of the study program General Theory and History of Art and Culture. The study is focused on the history of fine arts (architecture, sculpture, painting, drawing, graphic arts and crafts) from its beginnings to the present. Particular attention during study is on Christian sacral art, while the work of art is set in a wider cultural, historical and theological context. The graduate acquires a thorough knowledge of the history of Czech art from the beginnings to the present, with a special focus on sacral art, the history of European art with the same focus (until 1800) and the world in the 19th and 20th centuries; knows the basics of auxiliary historical sciences, basics of Christian teaching and church history; is linguistically equipped for professional activities. He is especially prepared for work in institutions dealing with research and protection of cultural monuments.
