Charles University Background
Charles University is the oldest and largest university in the country. It was founded in the fourteenth century in the Czech Republic, and it was the first university in Central Europe.
It's one of the oldest universities in Europe which has been in operation since its inception, and it also ranks in one of the world’s best universities. It consists of 17 faculties located in Prague, Hradec Kralove and Pilsen. It has an academic publishing house is Karolinum Press. The university also operates various museums and two botanical gardens.
Charles University Programs and Courses
Among the four original faculties of Charles University were the faculty of law, medicine, art and theology. Today, Charles University consists of seventeen faculties, based mainly in Prague, two houses in Hradec Kralove and one in Plze.
Charles University Campuses
Charles University does not have one joint campus. The academic facilities have many sites throughout the city of Prague, and 3 of the faculties are located in other cities. The main building from the 14th century is called Carolinum is situated in the Old Town of Prague and forms the university's centre.
Charles University Rankings and Achievements
According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities, Charles University ranked in the top 1.5 per cent of the world’s top universities in 2011. It was ranked at the 31st place in Times BRICS and Emerging Economies Rankings 2014.
