Medical Chemistry is a discipline at the interface between chemistry and pharmacology dealing with the design, preparation and development of drugs. The discipline is focused on educating professionals with theoretical and practical knowledge of all areas of chemistry, with good math training. The graduate obtains all necessary knowledge from the point of view of the principles of good laboratory practice, is able to independently manage and maintain modern instrumentation of research and analytical laboratories, is able to independently evaluate and statistically process analytical test results and to determine biological activities of tested substances, is also able to perform simple derivatization of organic compounds and search for published procedures for chemical modifications in specialized structural databases.
