BA Art History

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Marburg

Program Overview

The Bachelors degree in art history offers a broad basic education in art history. In addition, the opportunity is opened up to form your own focus by choosing a minor. During the first three semesters, lectures within the introductory modules impart basic knowledge about art from late antiquity to the present day. There are also introductions to dealing with works of visual art, architecture, sources and art theory. At the same time, attending modules in the area of case studies and art historical systematics promotes the analysis of individual examples and expands the methodological spectrum. Here, accents can be set within art history through the choice of modules and thematically changing events. Building on a solid, subject-specific basic knowledge, the students learn to apply scientific methods and knowledge independently. Beyond the complexity of the individual science, they are instructed in an interdisciplinary manner to gain insights and problem-solving of complex issues. The Bachelors degree in art history therefore offers an extensive proportion of compulsory elective modules from another subject and pays particular attention to this possibility of combination. The spectrum covers over 20 subjects.
