University of Marburg History

The University of Marburg was founded on 30th May 1527 by Landgrave Philip. It is the oldest Protestant university in the world. In 1970-71 the University underwent fundamental reorganization. It initially offered only for subjects with students less than a hundred and now it has outgrown to a huge public university. Its experimental course program is aimed at encouraging young people to pursue careers in science.

The university is known for various Graduate, Under Graduate Programs and Research Programs in the field of theology, law, sciences arts and humanities. It offers an International summer university program and offers student exchanges through the Erasmus Program. The university is also known for its Medical faculties. The university is most famous for its life sciences research.

University of Marburg Campus

The university has two main campuses Lahntal and Lahnberge. The university comprises of 120 buildings at 14 different sites. These buildings are exclusively for different departments like for Sciences, Mathematics, Computers, etc. The campus also has a huge library equipped with books journals and publications. There is a church too in the campus building which is constructed in archeological style.

The departments of psychology and geography enjoy an outstanding reputation and reached Excellence Group status in the Europe-wide CHE Excellence. Many Scientists has studied and imparted their knowledge to the students.

The collaborative research centers are financed by the German Science Foundation.
