The art history course covers the history of the predominantly (Western) European art since the end of antiquity. Art history is a historical discipline and should be distinguished from other courses such as art education and fine arts. These are taught with different goals, content and methods in other university areas or at art academies. Aesthetics is a sub-discipline of philosophy. The content overlaps with the neighboring disciplines of classical archeology and Byzantine studies, but also with European ethnology and museology.
