Program Overview

Modern cultural studies research analyzes the social and cultural life of the general population in a problem-oriented manner. The focus is on questions of cultural contact, cultural comparison, cultural exchange and cultural mediation from a historical and contemporary perspective. The role of the media is increasingly coming to the fore in the constitution of cultural identities within the framework of the modernization and globalization process. Understanding everyday cultural phenomena and communication systems in their respective contexts of conditions and meanings is an essential cognitive interest. In this respect, graduates of Comparative Cultural Studies contribute to awareness-raising and problem-solving in social developments and processes.
