University of Regensburg History

The University of Regensburg also known as Universitat Regensburg is a German public research university located in the city of Regensburg in Bavaria. The university was established on July 18, 1962, by Landtag of Bavaria after the discussions of the establishment of a university in Regensburg started in as early as 15th century.

University of Regensburg Programs, Courses, and Schools

The University of Regensburg is home to eleven faculties offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and research programs. The faculties include Faculty of Catholic Theology, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Business, Economics and Management Information Systems, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Philosophy, Art History, History, and Humanities, Faculty of Psychology, Education, and Sport Science, Faculty of Languages, Literature, and Cultures, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Biology and Pre-Clinical Medicine, and Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

The University of Regensburg also offers various research option catering to the research and academic community in the region and beyond in subjects like Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Bio-Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Humanities, History, Philology, and Medicine. The university also houses two research centers sponsored by The German Research Association (DFG).

University of Regensburg Campuses

The University of Regensburg is located in the city of Regensburg which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The university is located on the shores of Danube River and is close to the city centre and nearby Bavarian Forest. The city offers great cultural and student life in the form of numerous shopping and dining options. The university campus is also close to a number of lakes which offer recreational facilities. 

The University of Regensburg is home to an on-campus hospital, libraries, lecture rooms, classrooms, libraries, and shops spread over 150 hectares of land. The university also offers extensive sports and recreational and leisure facilities on-campus.

The University of Regensburg is one of the few universities in Europe to collaborate of over 30 European Union (EU) projects. The university also participates in the SOCRATES and TEMPUS programs. Due to its proximity to the Czech Republic, the interdisciplinary center at the university acts as a bridge between Central, Eastern, and Southeastern European countries.

The University of Regensburg is ranked 395th, 340th, and 338th best university in the world by QS World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and Center for World University Rankings respectively. The Handelsblatt rankings rate the university’s department of Business Administration as top 25 in Germany.

University of Regensburg USP

The University of Regensburg maintains partnerships with 130 European institutes of higher education and number of other institutions in the USA, Latin America, Japan, South Korea, and South-east Asia. Many Regensburg students go on to teach English at the universities in Japan, South Korea, and Latin America.
