Program Overview

The aim of the Bachelors program in Near and Middle East Studies is to acquire a broad basic knowledge of the countries of the Near and Middle East and to acquire skills in one or more of the central lingua francas or cultural languages of this region. The students gain a historical overview that gives them access to the region in its diversity and dynamics and enables them to classify social, political and cultural processes and dynamics in a larger context. This applies both to the historical depth dimension of 5000 years of cultural history and to the current situation. In addition, a broad intercultural competence is developed through methodological competence and systematic reflection as well as through the interdisciplinary and international nature of the course.
