Program Overview

The sub-subjects German Linguistics, Modern German Literature and Older German Literature are studied. In German Linguistics, an overview of the development of the German language with its historical language levels up to contemporary German and its grammar is gained. In modern German literary studies, tools and working techniques for the analysis of literary texts are acquired and basic concepts and methods of literary theory and literary studies are taught. Through insights into the history of literature, epoch and text knowledge, basic characteristics and important representatives of literary trends are learned. In the older German literature, Middle High German texts are analyzed and translated. The cultural-historical understanding required for this is conveyed. Constants and variants of the medieval system of literary genres are examined.
