BA Greek

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Freiburg

Program Overview

This degree program focuses on the language and literature of ancient Greece from Homer (8th century BC) to the end of Antiquity (6th century AD). In contrast to modern philology, however, the focus is not limited to literature in a strict sense but also includes philosophical and scientific texts. The goal of the program is to teach students to understand and interpret the preserved corpus of Greek literature using the methods of philology (linguistics and literary theory). The curriculum is divided into three stages: In the first semester, students hone their language skills in Greek-German and German-Greek translation courses.
