BA Italian Studies

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Martin Luther University of Halle Wittenberg

Program Overview

The writers, artists, and philosophers of Italian humanism and the Renaissance shaped the history of the western world. Italy therefore has a rich cultural heritage, which was important for becoming a nation and which represents an important point of reference even in today's everyday culture. In the state, which was founded late (as late as 1861), there was a long struggle for a uniform standard language, and the various regions are still characterized by strong cultural idiosyncrasies, which are reflected not only in the language but also in part in the literature. Italian studies include analyzing and interpreting contemporary developments in literature, language and culture using scientific methods.
