BA European Law

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Wurzburg

Program Overview

The BA European Law (LL.B.) at the University of Würzburg is a focused 7-semester (3.5-year) program designed for students who want a strong foundation in European law without following the traditional German state exam route. It’s a great choice if you’re interested in how EU law shapes business, human rights, and international systems—and want to build a career in the private sector, public administration, or continue with a Master’s degree.

Curriculum Structure

Semesters 1–2 (Foundation Building)

You begin with the core legal pillars—Civil Law, Public Law, and Criminal Law—giving you the same strong base as traditional law students. Alongside this, you’re introduced to key EU subjects like Main Features of European Law and Internal Market Law, helping you understand how European rules influence trade, competition, and everyday legal systems across countries.

Semesters 3–5 (Deepening Expertise)

As you progress, the focus shifts more towards European law in practice. You’ll study topics such as European Human Rights Protection, exploring frameworks like the EU Charter and ECHR, while electives like European Antitrust Law I and European Company Law give you insight into real-world business and competition issues. This stage builds your ability to analyse complex EU cases and prepares you for collaborative legal work.

Semesters 6–7 (Advanced Application & Specialisation)

In the final phase, you tailor your studies through advanced electives and bring everything together through a Bachelor’s thesis. With a total of 210 ECTS credits, you’ll develop specialised expertise in European law while also benefiting from overlap with state-exam subjects, keeping your future options flexible.
