Program Overview

Sociology is the general science of social phenomena. Its subject matter covers everything from elementary social relationships (for example couples or friendships), groups, communities, networks and organizations, to the social structures and processes of world society. Sociology is a pluralistic subject which involves intensive theoretical and methodological debates between social micro- and macro-theories and quantitative and qualitative methods. Taken from a wide variety of specific subject areas, the following fields are taught at the University of Mainz: the sociology of organizations and networks, of families and the gender gap, of knowledge and culture, of education, media and social inequality, and of technology research.
