The purpose of the training in the field of literary studies is to provide students with reliable knowledge about the processes of the development of Hungarian and world literature. It introduces the students to the historically changing social conditions and institutional system of literature, as well as the permanent and changing elements of the literary works of art. It equips them with the basic philological, rhetorical, poetic, poetic, and hermeneutic knowledge that is absolutely necessary for the interpretation of literary phenomena. It teaches them the combined view of our national literature and world literature. The purpose of the training in linguistics is to introduce the nature of the Hungarian language and its peculiarities that can be derived from its historical development. Relying on a solid foundation in linguistic theory, students get to know the methods of linguistic research, the grammar of the Hungarian language, the laws of linguistic organization, the historically and sociologically changing forms of language use, and the different approaches to linguistic phenomena.
