The BCL (Law and Business) at Maynooth University is a flexible interdisciplinary degree offering rigorous training in legal studies alongside comprehensive business education. Students explore how law and business intersect in the modern world while developing essential skills in argumentation, critical thinking, negotiation, and commercial reasoning. The course structure enables students to specialize or switch degree tracks after Year 1.
Dual Discipline Approach: Equal focus on law and business throughout all years
Global and Work Opportunities: Optional study abroad (Erasmus) or work placement year between Years 2 and 3
Professional Recognition: Degree is accredited for entry to the Honorable Society of King’s Inns (barrister training)
Course Overview:
Year 1: Core modules in constitutional law, contract law, microeconomics, and management innovation
Year 2: Commercial law, EU law, international law, international management, marketing management
Optional Year: Paid placement or international study via Erasmus or global partners
Year 3: Welfare law, environmental law, strategic management, and global supply chain management
Optional full-year work placement or Erasmus exchange between Years 2 and 3
Legal research and mooting opportunities through the Department of Law
Access to Maynooth Works and Placement Office for career coaching and internships
Student legal and business societies for case competitions and peer collaboration
Eligibility to progress to postgraduate law (e.g., LLM) or business degrees (e.g., MSc in Management, Finance)
Qualifies for professional legal training in Ireland (e.g., FE1s, King’s Inns)
