Program Overview

Public Health Nutrition at TU Dublin is all about understanding how food, diet and lifestyle affect the health of whole communities and how we can use that knowledge to prevent disease and improve quality of life. Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You begin by building a strong foundation in nutrition, biology and public health through subjects such as Nutrition Science 1, Infection and Immunity, Food Studies and Introduction to Professional Practice. This year helps you understand how nutrients support the body, how illness spreads, and how food choices affect health.

Year 2
In second year, you move deeper into the science behind diet and disease. You study Nutrition Science 2, Nutritional Epidemiology, Public Health Nutrition and Microbial Diagnostics, learning how nutrition patterns influence health at a population level and how food safety and microbes play a role in public wellbeing.

Year 3
This year focuses on applying your knowledge through research and professional development. You work on a research project and prepare for professional practice while developing skills in data analysis, scientific writing and public health investigation. You also have the option to study or carry out research abroad.

Year 4
Your final year is centred on real-world experience through a long professional work placement. You work in areas such as public health, community nutrition, food policy or health promotion, applying what you’ve learned in a real organisation while building strong employability skills.

    In your final year, you complete a 36–52 week work placement in areas such as public health organisations, community health services, food policy bodies or nutrition programmes — gaining full-time professional experience.
