In 1963, he received an MS from the University of California, Berkeley, and in 1967, he received a PhD from UCD. He started teaching control theory at Salford in 1969, then in 1978 he went back to UCD to teach electrical engineering. In addition to pursuing interests in biomedical engineering and renewable energy, he became a globally recognized authority on control theory. He established the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire and was a trailblazing biomedical engineer in Irish academia. View Less

Gemma Lanigan and Emmet Townsend, two students from South East Technological University (SETU), were honored to win the Engineering and Innovation and Sub Category: Product Design prizes at the Smarter Travel Student prizes on April 25, 2024. Gemma and Emmet are presently studying at SETU's Bachelor of Arts in Product Design Innovation program at the Carlow campus.
