Understanding food, its components, quality and consumer appeal are the ingredients of Food Science. At the University of Otago, Food Science papers aim to prepare people for creative, challenging, diverse and rewarding food industry careers. Food Science builds upon the basic sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics and it interacts with such diverse scientific disciplines as Human Nutrition, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Process Engineering. All play an important role in the understanding of the foods we produce, manufacture and consume.

The minimum entrance requirement is the completion of a high school certificate plus satisfactory completion of one year s study at an approved tertiary institution, IB Diploma with a minimum of 26 points, GCE Advanced Levels: minimum grade of 8, IELTS of 6.0, TOEFL ibT of 80 (writing 20), CAE/CPE of 176 (with no individual band below 169), (PTE) Academic of 58 with no communicative skills score below 50, Academic Transcripts, Educational Credential Evaluators report (ECE), Proof of your identity.
