5 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

UIC Barcelona International University of Catalonia

Program Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya is designed for students who want a practical, internationally focused education in architecture that prepares them for professional practice in Europe. It is ideal for creative and analytical students who are interested in designing buildings, shaping cities, and working across both artistic and technical dimensions of architecture.

The program blends studio-based learning with strong technical training in design, construction, structures, and architectural theory. From the beginning, students work on real design projects while gradually building the skills needed for professional architectural practice.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In the first year, students build a strong foundation in architecture through subjects such as Architectural Drawing, History of Art and Architecture, Mathematics, Spatial and Formal Analysis, Physics, and Computational Design. Alongside this, they begin practical design work in Design Studio 0 and are introduced to Architectural Construction, helping them understand how ideas are developed into physical structures.

Year 2

The second year focuses on developing architectural thinking and technical understanding. Students study Architectural Composition I and II, Building Construction I and II, Structural Calculation I, Urban Design I, and Design Studio I and II. They also strengthen communication and critical skills through Critical Thinking and English for Architecture, while learning how design connects with structure and urban context.

Year 3

In the third year, students engage with more complex architectural and urban challenges through Architectural Composition III and IV, Building Construction III and IV, Urban Design II, Structural Calculation II, and Design Studio III and IV. The curriculum also introduces Ethics and Accessibility, along with Building Mechanics and Facilities I, helping students understand responsible and functional building design.

Year 4

The fourth year deepens both technical knowledge and conceptual thinking. Students take Building Construction V and VI, Structural Calculation III, Urban Design III, and Design Studio V and VI. They also explore Sustainability, Cooperation, Architectural Theory and Criticism, and electives such as Introduction to BIM or Site Management, allowing them to begin shaping their own areas of interest.

Year 5

The final year is focused on professional preparation and independence. Students complete Design Studio VII and VIII, Management, Professional Ethics, Work Experience (internship), and the Final Degree Project. This year helps them bring together everything they have learned while gaining real experience in the architecture industry.
