Japanese Studies is a cultural-historic discipline which focuses on the social and cultural facts and conditions in Japan from its historical beginnings to the present time. The course provides students with a profound knowledge of spoken and written modern Japanese as well as a basic understanding of classical Japanese as a necessary precondition for the deconstruction and analysis of original language resources, texts and academic literature.

Upper secondary school-leaving certificate + 2 years of university-level studies recognised by the respective university or 5 Advanced Placement Tests, each one with a minimal score of 3 and including 2 languages, mathematics/calculus, one natural sciences subject and one social sciences subject, Proficiency in German Language, Goethe Zertifikat C2, IELTS of 7.0, TOEFL Internet-based 100.

Japanese Studies is concerned with the social and cultural conditions of Japan from its historical beginnings to the present day.
