What do religions have in common, what makes them different What does religion mean for people, culture and society What are your communicative, medial and sensual aspects In contrast to theology, the science of religion is a discipline oriented towards culture and social science, which works empirically, historico-philologically and comparatively. It is dedicated to all religions of the world from antiquity to the present and also examines phenomena that are classified as religious or delimited from religion, such as atheism, nationalism, occultism, esotericism, capitalism and many more. Furthermore, religions are in a reciprocal relationship to other areas of society such as politics, economics, law or art, which are considered in the study of religion.
