University of Basel Background and History

The University of Basel is a public university which was established in the year 1460 and is located in Basel, Switzerland. The university is traditionally counted among the leading institutions of higher learning in the country and is Switzerland’s oldest university and among the ‘world's oldest surviving universities’. 

University of Basel Programs Courses and Schools 

The University of Basel comprises seven faculties:  Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Business and Economics, and Faculty of Psychology. These faculties have several departments such as: Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Public Health, Department of Clinical Research, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, Department of Environmental Sciences, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Sport, Exercise, and Health, and many more.  The university also has four institutes Institute for European Global Studies, Center for Philanthropy Studies, Institute for Biomedical Ethics, and the Institute of Education. It also has many associated Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, Basel Institute on Governance, Swiss Centre for Rescue, Emergency and Disaster Medicine, Swisspeace, and many more. 

University of Basel has more than 12,852 Students which include Undergraduate students, Graduate students, and many international students as well. The university has more than 377 faculty members. 

University of Basel USP

University of Basel provides scholarship opportunities to the students on the basis of academic excellence. University Sports provides a gym, fitness classes, and sport and dance camps to students and employees of the University. There are also a variety of organizations that cater to international students, such as local chapters of Toastmasters and AIESEC, and associations that perform community services (Beraber, for instance, provides remedial lessons to immigrant youth). There is a foreign affairs association (Foraus), a Model United Nations team, and various choirs and orchestras.
