Year 1

Your first year focuses on building strong creative foundations shared across fine arts and design. Through courses such as Art and Design Foundation, Drawing Fundamentals, Color Theory, and History of Art and Design, you develop visual communication skills, creative thinking, and an understanding of how design has evolved across cultures and time.

Year 2

In the second year, you formally enter the interior design discipline. Modules including Introduction to Interior Design, Interior Drafting, Interior Design Studio I & II, Interior Construction, and Computer-Aided Design I introduce space planning, materials, technical drawing, and digital tools, helping you translate design ideas into practical interior solutions.

Year 3

Year three deepens both conceptual and technical abilities. Through Interior Design Studio III & IV, Furniture Design, Working Drawings and Detailing, Building Systems for Interiors, and Sustainable Interior Environments, you tackle more complex interior projects and learn how lighting, furniture, systems, and sustainability shape real-world spaces.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At University of Sharjah, interior design is taught through hands-on studio practice that reflects how designers work in the real world. From your early foundation courses to your final graduation project, you learn by designing, experimenting, receiving critique, and refining your ideas in professional-style studios supported by specialised facilities and close faculty mentorship.

This practical learning experience is embedded throughout the programme in the following ways:

  • Studio-based design learning: Interior Design Studios run every year, guiding you through real design briefs that build skills in space planning, concept development, and professional presentation.

  • Technical skill development: Courses in drafting, construction, building systems, and working drawings help you understand how interior designs are detailed, documented, and built in practice.

  • Digital and manual tools: You work with computer-aided design software alongside hand drawing and model-making, allowing you to communicate ideas clearly and professionally.

  • Material and sustainability exploration: Studio and technical courses encourage you to experiment with materials, finishes, furniture, and sustainable design strategies.

  • Critiques and reviews: Regular presentations and juried reviews help you develop confidence in explaining your ideas and responding to professional feedback.

  • Portfolio building: Each year contributes to a growing body of studio work, ensuring you graduate with a strong, industry-ready portfolio.

By the end of the degree, you don’t just understand interior design in theory — you’ve practised it across a wide range of design contexts.
